First Aid at Work Program Content
The Emergency First Response First Aid at Work (Great Britain) is designed for the purpose of meeting the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. This programme meets the statutory needs of employers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland needing at least one First Aider on the premises.
The Emergency First Response First Aid at Work (Great Britain) course is customised to UK Resuscitation Council basic life support protocols and nationally accepted first aid protocols and is based upon the instructor led delivery of the Emergency First Response Primary Care and Secondary Care modules instructor digital lesson guides. Modules on Caring for Specific Illnesses and Injuries, and First Aid in the Workplace compliment these. The course has its own materials and benefits from the use of the existing Emergency First Response Primary Care and Secondary Care videos.
First Aid at Work - Primary Care
This module covers emergency care for most life threatening emergencies. Participants focus on primary care through knowledge development, skill development and realistic scenario practice. The major skills learned in this module are:
- Scene Assessment
- Barrier Use
- Primary Assessment
- One Rescuer, Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Rescue Breathing
- Serious Bleeding Management
- Shock Management
- Spinal Injury Management
- Conscious Choking Adult
- Automated External Defibrillator Orientation
- Emergency Oxygen Use Orientation
First Aid at Work - Secondary Care
This module covers injuries or illnesses that are not immediately life threatening or when local Emergency Services is unavailable or delayed. Participants focus on secondary assessments and the appropriate first aid through knowledge development, skills development and realistic scenario practice. Skills learned include:
- Injury Assessment
- Illness Assessment
- Bandaging
- Splinting for Dislocations and Fractures
First Aid at Work - HSE Legislation
This module covers the Health and Safety Executive Legislation relating to work place first aid and includes:
- managing the provision of first aid (first-aid kit, equipment, rooms etc)
- guidance on the use of automated external defibrillators
- requirements for appointed persons
- making employees aware of first-aid arrangements
First Aid at Work - Other Injuries
This module is included in the 3 day First Aid at Work course, 2 day First Aid at Work requalification, but not the Emergenency First aid at work course. Participants focus on secondary assessments and the appropriate first aid through knowledge development, skills development and realistic scenario practice.
